Summer learning is about to take off in a major way around Killeen ISD.

The extended school program, meant to fight off the summer slide in learning begins Monday, along with a wide range of camps, a middle school band session, free meal service, high school End of Course preparation and more.

The details are available on the district website at the following:

While the creative learning camps are mostly full for both in person and virtual options, there are many resources available online to fill students’ free time and promote learning.

STREAM Camp combines science, technology, reading, engineering, art and math. This year the district has expanded to three three-day sessions. All are full.

The popular camp evolved out of the school district’s open library program. The STREAM Camp began in 2018 and continued the following year. This year’s version is expanded with more sites, more grade levels and a virtual option.

District Instructional Specialist Holly Landez pointed out that this is the first year for middle school students to have their own separate camp. Union Grove Middle School and Timber Ridge Elementary School host the first week.

“We are also hosting 172 virtual learners through the three weeks,” Landez said. “Also, we have the STEM bus visiting the campus the first two weeks.”

Last year’s STREAM Camps attracted about 220 registered participants. This year, the expanded camps plan to host more than 500 students.

Camp Invention (July 12-15) and Camp Accelerate (July 19-22) are available for first through fifth grade students, both at five campuses. Registration is open.

Camp Invention and Writing Camp are available for middle school students, both July 12-15 at Smith Middle School.

Free Virtual Enrichment
Free summer enrichment for elementary and secondary students is available at the following:
