Killeen ISD Names New West Ward Principal
Superintendent Dr. John Craft named Tammy Thornhill as the new West Ward Elementary Principal.
Thornhill has served in instructional leadership roles in the district, most recently as an assistant principal at Audie Murphy Middle School. Before her time in leadership, Thornhill was a teacher at Clifton Park Elementary School where she was named the 2014 KISD Teacher of the Year and the Region 12 Teacher of the Year in 2015.
Thornhill is excited to begin supporting the students and staff of West Ward Elementary ahead of the new school year. A Killeen native, Thornhill attended Peebles Elementary School, Rancier Middle School and graduated from Killeen High School. While growing up and visiting her grandmother, Thornhill would often spend summers and weekends in the West Ward neighborhood.
Thornhill has a Master’s of Education in Administration from Texas A&M Central Texas University in Killeen, Texas.
Maureen Adams, the outgoing Principal, will begin her new role in helping to coordinate the district’s College Career and Military Readiness program.
Superintendent Dr. John Craft said, “Tammy Thornhill has demonstrated her abilities not only as a dynamic teacher, but also an incredible instructional leader. We are excited for the students and teachers of West Ward Elementary as we prepare to start the 2019-2020 school year.”
