January Employee Spotlight Angel Cotto

Clear Creek Aide Named January Spotlight

Never at rest and always enthusiastic, Angel Cotto is a wave of positive, energetic force at Clear Creek Elementary School.
He is also the Killeen ISD Employee Spotlight for the month of January.
“Mr. Cotto loves the kids, and it shows in everything he does,” said Clear Creek PE teacher Amber Koloroutis, who nominated the pre-kindergarten aide for the district honor.
A group representing Killeen ISD human resources, communications and the KISD Education Foundation joined Assistant Superintendent David Manley and campus leaders in surprising Cotto with the award.
The surprised aide rose from his hallway workspace and gladly draped himself with the celebration ribbons he received.
He said that the Clear Creek staff is like a family and that winning an award for doing the job he loved was overwhelming, leaving him speechless.
“If someone needs help at Clear Creek, be it staff or student, they know they can call on Mr. Cotto and he’ll do it with a smile on his face,” said Koloroutis, who pointed out that students love him as much as he loves them.
The instructional aide seems to be everywhere, serving duty in the morning as students arrive, in the cafeteria during breakfast and lunch and at dismissal.
In addition to helping to operate the school, he is a natural instructor who relates well with young students.
“He does it all - working with kids, tutoring, covering classes, helping in music and PE,” said the PE teacher.
The list, she said, is endless, just like Cotto’s energy, joy and drive.
“He is an invaluable asset to Clear Creek, and we are incredibly lucky to have him.”
